Castanea, European Chestnut Network, was born in Florence on the 29th May, 2009. It gathers the Chestnut Farmers Associations who share the target to constitute a lobbying organization on the economic, cultural and tourist development of the activities connected with the Chestnut Tree.

WHAT DOES CASTANEA DO?

- enhances the value of mountain and rural areas;
- develops the direct and indirect activities connected to the Chestnut tree;
- defends and preserves the landscapes of the Chestnut wood;
- protects and recuperates the handiworks related to the Chestnut tree;
- contributes to the safeguard of biodiversity and to the preservation of the springs;
- fights against the climate changes;
- spreads the Chestnut civilization;
- points out the best practices and encourages the exchange of experiences;
- supports the studies on the protection of the Chestnut Tree from threats and pests;
- advances and takes part in projects on Chestnut tree in order to get public funds;
- sustains cultural, educational, didactic, social and artistic activities connected to the Chestnut tree;
- promotes and boosts all the Chestnut tree products (main, minor and indirect ones), betting on tradition and innovation.
